Fig. 6. Bowl. Yung-cheng period On the bottom, an underglaze blue mark: lotus, with no ring. On the basis of the blue of ihe cobalt, the style of the pattern, the mark on the boltom, the piece could stem from about the end of the 17th century. Inventory number: 2120. height: 20.5 cm. The following two piece's — a pair of bottles — are similarly marked, (figs. 2a—b) On the upper part of tihe slender neck of the bottle two animal head shaped ears are to be seen, whilh rings. The ear is unglazed, the traces of gold paint are still left, between the ears a bidding ring. 'The lower, round part of the bottle is divided into 0 petal-like sections, slightly rounded. Ornamentation: in two parts, on the opposite sides, a flower-pot on a stand, with flowers, in the first one is a daisy, in the second one a lotus-like flower. Beside the flowers, in front and in the rear, two-two female figures face each other, their pattern is similar. The figurine on the right holds a fly­whisk, whereas on the left, if holds a fan. The shoulder of the bottle is ornamented by peonies, on the neck, some stylized branches with flowers. Similarly shaped and ornamented bottles are quite often in this era. Variations: in each petal-like section there are flowers'', or double, triple rows of petals are situated above each other, with flower-pot containing flowers, in the centre. 1(1 A bottle, very similar to ours is In the possession of the Hermitage, with ears with ring, having female figure's and flower-pots" in the petal-like 1 sections. The glaze has a bluish lint, the cobalt is pine blue. The paint is particularly characteristic of the' K'ang-hsi style 1 , the 1 bottle could have been made around the middle of K'ang-hsi's rule, at the' emel of the I7lh or at the beginning of the 18th century.
