HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM - MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Cseh, Éva: K'ang-hsi and Other Blue and White Porcelains from the 18th Century
situation is apparent with ^ uug-cheng and Ch'ien-liing porcelains, because by imitating old vessels, such perfection was readied, that proper determination of the era becomes quite difficult. Information on the materials at display will start with articles having no nien hao, presumably made during the middle of K'ang-hsi's rule, that is at the end of tin- 17th. — or at the beginning of the I Si h century. The piece is a long necked, small bottle (fig. 1). the lower part of the body is rounded. Ornamentation: leafs on the upper part of the neck, then a wave-crest motif in a ring, quite simplified, underneath an ornamentation with entangled runners, on the base a similar pattern. On the rounded part of the bottle lo highly stylized lion-like animals, their structure reminds the observer of a dragon. Elongated body, ending in a long tail, with a curling tassel, no scales, round cheeks with mane. Between the two figures are long, endulating flames, hall surrounded by flames, above, on the neck, some cherry blossom branches, below, waves. .No definite contours, sometimes, ihe colours run over them. Inspite of the sketchlike pattern, the bottle makes a harmonious impression, due to the beautiful, clear blue colour.
