Fig. 8. Mongolia or Nepal. Tärä. The high base with two rows of lotus leaves is cut in a straight line at the back. Standing Tara, the head slightly bent to the right, with lotus stems at her sides. The hands are in vitarka and varada mudra. Without garments but with rich ornaments, five leafed bodhisattva crown, high ushnisha. Cast in bronze and gilded. On the head, on the ushnisha and elsewhere traces of blue and red paint. The piece originates from Mongolia, nevertheless, its base and style make us think of Nepal, either as the actual place of origin, or as the region which supplied the tvpe for Mongolia. Late 18th or early 19th century. — H.: 17 cm. Base: 5,7X4,3 cm. — Inv. No.: 68.21. L. F.
