HOPP FERENC MÚZEUM - MUSÉE FERENC HOPP - Horváth, Tibor: Reports on the Activities of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts in 1965-1966

Fig. 0 : India. Jamini Roy, Standing Woman, from 1960's. Aquarelle on paper. The figure of the woman is a little too simplified and summarized in a flat way similar to a solid body. Under the evenly pale grey veil which covers the whole body, one can hardly perceive the plasticity of a living woman. The figure is lonely, passive and remote from the earth, this is accentuated even more by the double contour lines emphasizing the clear pure colours. Nor does the flat colourless background indicate any real world. Only the traditional drawing of the face, the elongated eyes and the warm brownish colour of the face give charm to the composition.
