sides of the ink cake in the left lower corner we find the directory of the husbandry series and on the other side those of the weaving series (Figs. 5—6.). The gilded titles are always placed on the right upper part of the ink cake, in vertical direction. On the upper side of the cakes we can see the tradicional „Keng Chih T'u" illustrations and the titles of the illustrated scenes and on the back side the septisyllabic quatrains of the emperor Kang-hsi, in calligraphic form gilded. 4 The working up of the ,,Keng Chih T'u theme can be traced up to Lou Shou in the 12th century. The original work of Lou Shou has not survived, it is only its Japanese copy, made on the basis of the Sung Tsung-lu edition from 1462, which is known. This is linked with the name of Kano Eino and was published in Kyoto in 1676. In addition to this edition, standing presumably nearest to the original, some other editions have remained too. The designs of the so called Kang-hsi edition, made in 1696 were produced by court painter, Chiao Ping-chen, on the base of Sung period traditions, but with the partial application of the European perspective which at that time began to spread in China too. This was then cut on wood by Chu Kui. It was on the basis of this woodcut that the so called first Chien-lung edition was produced in 1739.
