ZOLTÁN FELVINCZI TAKÁTS 1880-1964 On the 4th of December 1964, a little before noon, he came to the Museum to see some Chinese paintings, then he decided to spend the afternoon with the newly arrived books, when he staggered and had to be helped to a couch. An ambulance was called to take him to a hospital where he barely had time left to see his family for the last time. In his decease we are mourning our first director. He influenced Ferenc Hopp to alter his will just two months before he died in 1919, and the new will provided the foundation of the Museum of Eastern Asiatic Arts. From that time on Felvinczi Takáts devoted all his energy to the development of this Museum. Although he retired in 1950, he still had his desk and spent much of his time in the Museum.
