Ch'ien-lung Travels : László Ferenczy, the vice-director of the Museum was sent to Mongolia by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between June 16 and July 22, to do archae­ological researches. István Erdélyi, a member of the Archaeological Research Institute of the Academy accompanied him. The Mongolian head of this Joint Mongolian-Hungarian expedition was C. Dorjsuren, archaeologist and member of the Institute of History of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The expedi­tion covered Noin Ula, Jargalant, the city of Orkhon, Tsagan tolgoi, the monas­tery of Amarbayasgalant, Orkhontur and the Ikhtal-Tsaidam road searching for Turkish and other early medieval tombs. They made trial excavations at several places. Returning to Ulan Bator, László Ferenczy gave a lecture about the collections and works of our Museum in the Institute of History of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences on July 16. He also studied the exhibitions of the Central Museum of Ulan Bator, the material of the archaeological laboratory at the University and the Buddhist monasteries. He was able to visit the Museum of the Irkutsk and later the museums of Moscow and Lenin­grad on his way home. Between November 29 and Dec. 22, he went on another trip to visit the museums of Prague, Dresden, Leipzig, Halle, East-Berlin and Vienna. On Dec. 6, he gave a lecture on the results of the Joint Mongolian-Hungarian expe­dition of 1962 in the Archaeological Institute of the Martin Luther University at Halle.
