TANULMÁNYOK - BORÓKAY ZSÓFIA: TÖREDÉKEK EGY BUDAI POLGÁRI VILLA ÉLETÉBŐL
ZSÓFIA BOROK AY DEZSŐ ZRUMECKY'S VILLA IN PÁFRÁNY STREET FRA GMENTS FORM THE LIFE OF A VILLA IN BUDA SUMMARY Through the architectural history of a villa in Hűvösvölgy (Páfrány Str. 9.) the study outlines the development of Nyék quarter in Buda and also the way the nobles and the middle-class used to build there in the first part of the 20th century. According to Dezső Zrumeczky 's plans in 1910 the single-storey, eclectic Apáthy holiday home was enlarged to a two-storeyed villa used as a permanent home for the middle-class. The architect's hitherto unknown plans' most significant character is the house's central room, a two-storey hall with an inside staircase and a wooden loft. The formation which reflects the principles of the British Aesthetic Movement and mainly the ideas of Baillie Scott is a special characteristic of Dezső Zrumeczky's architecture. This solution also occurs in the Tormay villa designed in 1911. The study - like the approach at the turn of the century - views the villa as a whole and examines the interior design such as the furniture designed by Zrumeczky's friend, Thoroczkai Wigand Ede and also the garden design.
