ANIMAL BONES FROM THE TURKISH ERA WELL OF THE TELEKI PALACE The site's composition of the animal bones material is very characteristic of the Turkish era. The animals that were considered unclean (dogs and especially pigs) are rather few in number, and there are many cats, an animal well liked by Turks. The proportion between the most important animals (sheep/goats, poultry and cattle) shows that sheep and goat occured more frequently, and also there was a large number of poultry. The cattle seem to take the third place in the prder of importance. But there is no need to seek a general explanation for this sequence: it can well be that it only explains the habits of people living in this particular area. 163
