VELENCEI ÜVEG TÁL A KÁROLYI PALOTA UDVARÁN FELTÁRT TÖRÖK TÁROLÓBÓL VENETIAN GLASS BOWL FOUND IN THE TURKISH STORAGE UNEARTHED IN THE YARD OF THE KÁROLYI PALACE In the autumn of 1997 there was a short survey excavation in the yard of the Károlyi Palace and it was followed by a complete archaeological invastigation from July to November 1998. In the course of the research preceeding the implementation, the building of an underground storage, 23 graves of a U-12 th century cemetery, a part of a 13 th century village (Szent Erzsébet falva), wall remains from the 15 th-16 th century and the cellar and the food store of a Turkish house were found. A storage-pit was unearthed in the western side of the yard of the Károlyi Palace. It was aboundant in finds. The majority of the pottery found in it contained the necessary pieces of an average turkish household. A small glass bowl discovered in the bottom part of the pit was the most outstanding piece of the collection of finds. Its specific feature is the decoration made of white glass threads covering the outer surface of the bowl like a net, the so called "vetro a reticello". The bowl came from Venice, it was made probably at the end of the 16 th or the beginning of the 17 th century. The food storage could have belonged to the dwelling house standing to the north of it. In the course of archaeological research the stone walls of the cellar and the burnt ruinous remains of the timber structured ground floor of the house from the Turkish period were found. 191
