CSABA CSORBA THE RESEARCH OF THE ST . MARGARET CHURCH AT OBUDA AND ITS VICINITY A wall of east-west direction was found during works of laying gas mains to the south of the Baroque Parish Church at Óbuda. By excavations it could be cleared that it was part of the ground-walls of a 10 m. long and about 5 m. wide 13th century church (or chapel) with a semicircular termination of its sanctuary, probably bearing a turret in its front, situated to the south of the Baroque church of today. Within the latter the author found Roman walls, so that at the moment it seems that the edifice turned up was not a side-chapel but an independent building. The church was, conditionally, identified as the St. Margaret Chapel of Óbuda which had been first mentioned in 1266. From 1355 on, St. Margaret Church became the parish church of the queen' s district in the town of Óbuda. To the south and east of the church disturbed graves of medieval and recent-time cemeteries turned up. To the north of the church, southwards from the elevated approach of today* s Árpád bridge, in Serfőző Street, the traces of a medieval (14-15th century) road, leading from east to west could be found, with a late Roman road of the same direction under it. The medieval road was probably part of the boundary separating the queen* s district from that of the provost. (Figures: 67-68, plates: 269-278) 34. Budapest régiségei 265
