Their common feature is that the inhabitants built an oven in the northern, eastern or northeastern corner of the building. The houses were constructed from rubble, Roman tegula and imbrex fragments and pink mortar which were easy to obtain from the remains of the often-mentioned stone building. Another common trait of the Avar houses at the site is that they were dug down to the sandy ground so there was no need to specifically made floor level. The walls were slightly slanted. As it was not possible to unearth the features in the central zone from the level they appeared, we could record only those postholcs that extended until the level from which we started. The reconstruction of the superstructures is difficult because of the uncertainty about the post systems. We were luckier in the western zone. Here, wc could investigate the features from the level they appeared. We were able to entirely unearth an Avar dwelling with a huge oven in the northern corner. We found a wide posthole each in the middle of both of the short walls, from which the commonest type of saddle roof structure could be reconstructed. The depth of the house implies that there were no built vertical walls at all. In the eastern part of the territory, the excavation will be continued in parallel with the construction of the store.
