The fragment groups lifted from the soil were marked by relevant numbers in the storage cases as well. An interesting wavy pattern already appeared in the plaster layer in the excavation when the backside of the fragments was being cleaned. This pattern was incised into the first clayey plaster layer spread on the wall with a many-pronged tool produced especially for this purpose or by hand. The purpose was so that the next, already limy-sandy plaster layer adhered better to the previous muddy plaster layer. After the building collapsed, the positive imprint of the pattern survived on the backside of the detached wall paintings (Fig. 6). After the excavations came to an end, the wall painting fragments were cleaned and reassembled. Only a partial dry cleaning (with a surgical blade and brush) and watery cleaning (with a sponge and a toothbrush) were carried out until the painted motives became visible.
