A falazatot már nem alapozták olyan mélyre, mint a keleti hídpillért, megközelítőleg a toronyalapozás mélységéig építet­ték meg. Nagyobb felületben sikerült fel­tárnunk az átjáró mögötti padlóré­tegeket (KOCSIS 2000, 95.) és az azon levő, a későbbi hasznosítást ment, extending approximately to the same depth as the tower foun­dations. We unearthed the floor levels behind the gateway (KOCSIS 2000, 95.) and the wall fragments over it. These show that the gateway had been used secondarily over a larger surface in sector "a-b" of trench V­14-111. We separate out the 20 burnt coins wrapped in a linen sack, which was found on floor 2 last year. Nine of the coins could be identified. The majority of the coins were minted by the Valentinianus dynasty (4 Valens, 3 Valentinian, 1 from Valentinian's period and a worn one of Constantine II.). The coin find, dis­covered in situ, exactly dates the 2 nd floor level of the southern gate­way (376-375) and reflects the utili­sation of floor level 1 and the gate following the Roman occupation. We carried on with the excava­tion of the area behind the south­ern tower of the eastern gate in trenches I and III in square V-15. (KOCSIS 2000, 95-96.) The remains of the yellow loessy rampart, which had been pulled down and levelled in the Roman period, were unearthed in trench III.
