3. Újabb leletmentés a Nagyszombat utcai amfiteátrumtól délre (Hable Tibor)

kövekkel kellett megerősíteni a kút alját. (6. kép) Ez utóbbi, 2. század második felében használt objektum alján, nyers, sárgás-rózsaszínre égetett cserépkanna feküdt (OELMAN 1914, 75. ), mely méretre és formára is azonos a gázgyári A/5, kút egyik leletével: 7. kép. (KUZSINSZKY 1932, 88., 76. kép: 8.) A 8. számmal jelölt kút stratigráfiai helyzete azonos a 9. jelzetű gödrökével, azaz a már betöltődött, keskeny árkok után ásták. A négyszögletes alaprajzú falazatot (8. kép) sötétszürke agyagba rakott kövekből, szintén szögletes, fa keretre alapozták, ahogy a gázgyári B/II. kútnál. (KUZSINSZKY 1932, 75-76.) Roman well lined with barrels from the 2'"' century during opening (feature 7). similar one was discovered in 1995 (HABLE 1995, 30.), the latter in the vicinity (HABLE 1996, 34., Figure 18), on the north-eastern side of the great depression {Figure 2:19). All the wells were dug to depths of 44.5 m in the region in order to reach the water holding gravel layer lying about 99-100 m above the Adriatic Sea. The barrels were pushed down into the narrow shaft of well no. 6 from an approximately 1.5 m deep, slanting bench, while in well no. 7 the space between the barrels and the too widely dug shaft was filled back. (Figure 5) The bottom of the well had to be reinforced after some time with more barrels of smaller diameters because of the loosened staves, which gives an impression as if two barrels had been slid into each other. (Figure 6) A pottery vessel, burnt to a yellowish rosy color, lay on the bottom of the latter feature used in the second half of the AD 2

nd century (OELMAN 1914, 75.). It is identical to one of the finds from well A/5 in the Gas-Works both regarding its measurements and its shape: Figure 7 (KUZSINSZKY 1932, 88., Figure 76: 8.). The stratigraphie position of well no. 8 is identical to that of pit marked as no. 9, which means that it was dug after the filling-in of the narrow trenches. The rectangular wall struc-
