BEVEZETŐ

EVTRODUCTION This publication, showrng the main charactenstics of the dwellings owned by local governments, is part of the senes on the results of the 1996 Hunganan microcensus. The síze and, in most respects, the structure of the dwelling stock has oniy moderately changed, or even remained almost unchanged since the 1990 fuli-scale census. The only exception is its composition by type of ownership, significantly transformed by the accelerated pnvatization process of local governmentowned dwellings after 1990. Between 1990-1996, the share of local government-owned dwellings decreased to its one-third, to 6 percent. Our publication gives an overview on the changes of this section of the dwelling stock, as well as the charactenstics of that part still in local governments' property. After a short analytical chapter, the volume presents „Summary data" in companson with data of the 1990 population and housing census, including the changes of the most important charactenstics, thus the numencal consequences of the privatization process. Chapter on 5 rDetailed data" gives a naüon-wide picture, based on manyfold crosstabulations of these variables, on dwellings and their occupants. Chapter „Data by types of locality" presents the mam data combinations in a breakdown according to the classification Budapest-county seats-other úrban areas-rural areas. The final chapter of tabulations („County data") gives an overview on the most important charactenstics of local government-owned dwelling in a breakdown by counties. The last part of the volume presents the explanation of the concepts used. The sampling procedure and sampling errors are contained in the volume „Population and housing charactenstics" 9
