BEVEZETŐ

INTRODUCTION The results of the 1996 microcensus are being published in a printed series by the Hungárián Central Statistical Office. The first volume—„Population and housing characteristics"—presented a compilation of the most important data including detailed crosstabulations, too. Further, following its relevant traditions concerning population census and microcensus publication, the HCSO publishes separate thematic volumes with a more in-depth presentation of the main topics (demography, occupation, household and family, dwelling). Present publication contains supplementary information with respect to the housing data of the firstly published volume, adding new characteristics of dwellings and of their occupants on the one hand, and showing more detailed combinations of those already published, on the other hand. Chapter „Summary data" of the volume basically is the continuation of the relevant part containing the summary tables on dwellings of the first volume, partly supplementing the information presented in it, partly constituting the transition to the more detailed content of the present publication, according alsó to locality types. In part „Detailed data" can be found tabulations with more detailed and new combinations, serving as a basis of further analysis. These tables alsó contain newer aspects derived from the basic data of the first volume, above all with data on occupants based on population topics of the microcensus. Besides aggregated national information, the data are alsó presented by type of locality (Budapest, other úrban areas and rural areas), as well as in combinations containing occupants' data. The last chapter contains the detailed description of the concepts used. The sampling method and the confidence intervals of the data are presented in detail in the volume „Population and housing characteristics". 9
