Budapest városrészei (1996)
BEVEZETŐ
INTRODUCTION It was in early 1996 that the Central Statistical Office published the Gazetteer of the Hungarian Republic, which, following the traditions of former gazetteers, presents a systematical overview of administrative territorial units, their inner areas and inhabited outskirts (in conformity with the administrative division as of July 1, 1995) as well as their population size, the number of residential buildings and dwellings according to the 1990 population and housing census data. The Central Statistical Office is keeping the register of central and other inner areas and inhabited outskirts of localities (urban and rural areas) as well as all changes relating to these areas. However, until now no data on the city quarters inside the central inner area of localities have been available for the Office. The delimitation and use of city quarters defined on the basis of historical, locality development and morphological aspects have been of an even growing importance, so data of this kind are often demanded. Therefore in 1996 the Office requested from the notaries of the capital, district and urban authorities the names and the description of city quarters established by the relevant urban representative body or the general assembly of the capital or by the urban development plan. Because of the basic divergences concerning the information on the different urban localities, their processing and registration necessitates the elaboration of standard principles and, in connection with this, further consultations with the local governments. However, as far as the capital is concerned, its city quarters form a unified system, thus allowing for being prepared for publication. In accordance with Act LXV. of 1990 on local governments, the decision on the name of city quarters of the capital belongs to the scope of tasks and authority of the local government of the capital, with the obligation of taking into account the expert opinion expressed by the representative body of the district concerned. First the names and boundaries of city quarters of ten districts of the capital were established by Resolutions no. 75/1990 and 76/1990 of the Capital Council. These were followed up to now by its Resolutions no. 149/1990 and 169/1990 and those taken by the General Assembly of the Capital under no. 350/1991, 473/1991, 476/1991, 768/1991, 1040/1991, 550/1992, 552/1992 and 873/1993 relating to the names and descriptions of city quarters of the other districts or, on the initiative of the relevant local governments, to some modifications in the number and names of formerly established city quarters. The division into city quarters of district XX, was carried out in conformity with the administrative boundaries specified at the separation of district XXIII (Soroksár). According to the aforementioned resolutions, there are 194 city quarters in the capital, of which 8 belong to two ditricts and 1 makes part of three different districts. The data on the registered city quarters have been verified by the district governments and updated in accordance with the changes in the street names and some slight recent corrections taken from the accepted city development plan. Besides the official designation - with Roman numbers - of the capital districts, their denomination in the chapter containing the description of city quarters has also been entered according to para. 2 of Act XLIII of 1994 and to the organizational and operational statutes of representative bodies of the relevant district governments. The presentation by city quarters of the capital in our publication constitutes the supplement to the relevant chapter of the gazetteer. Besides describing the boundaries of city quarters of the capital, the volume contains the most important demographic, educational and occupational characteristics of the population as well as the main household, family, residential building and dwelling data of the city quarters, according to the 1990 population and housing census. 6
