V. EXPLANATION OF CONCEPTS

CHARACTER OF OWNERSHIP Dwellings in personal ownership: - the ctoelling was marked "in a building of detached family house" type, if it was in a residential house of 1-3 dwellings or on a separate ground-plot; here belong alsó the dwellings in group houses (twin houses, residential lines, chain-houses, atrium-houses); — a dwelling in a condoniniun and, respectively, a freehold fiat is such which is in a building in joint ownership, containing 4 or more flats, alsó in the case if there is no document regarding the foundation of the condominium; — a dwelling of a housing co-operative is one in a house of a housing co-operative being in the ownership of the citizens. Dwelling in state ownership: — tenement dwelling of the local council is a dwelling in state ownership managed and rented out by the local housing authorities; — other coBwunal tenement dwelling, official quarters are not in the ownership of the housing authorities but of somé other state body (institution, office, enterprise etc.) and serve exclusively for the piacement of persons related by employment with, or psrforming service in, the body. Dwelling in co-operative ownership is in the ownership of farming, industrial etc. producing, servicing, trading and other co-operatives, co-operative corporate organizations, unions, associations, i.e. having a legal entity and the character of a co-operative. Dwellings in other ownership are in the ownership of religious denominations and foreign legal entities. The character of ownership refers to the whole cVielling independently of the tenure by which the inhabitants live in the dwelling. TENURE OF THE DWELLING Of the dwellings in personal ownership of owner's tenure are those in which the owner or the owner's relatives live without paying a rent. Such are alsó the dwellings used by tenure of beneficial owner. A dwelling of tenant's tenure is rented from a state body, co-operative or priváté person for exclusive use. Such are the other communal tenement dwellings and the official quarters, too. (Instead of the term "lease" according to the prescriptions in force, this volume goes on to use the generál and well-known term of "tenement".) The dwellings used only by subtenants, were indicated among those of tenemental tenure. A dwelling is of co-tenancy tenure if it is rented by two or more households who are separate tenants on the basis of the allocation of the housing authorities and is used dividedly. (The joint tenant's tenure is not a co-tenancy but a tenement.) Of other tenure is the dwelling if it is occupied by a tenure not figuring among the above definitions, e.g. the whole dwelling is occupied by a so-called inhabitant by favour who is not paying any rent, or by an occupant without tenure. The tenure of the dwelling was established on the basis of the tenure of the first household from among the households occupying the dwelling. THE INHABITANTS (OCCUPANTS) OF THE DWELLING The data of the occupants of the dwellings refer to the resident population. 273
