THE PLACE OF WORK AND THE ACTUAL PLACE OF RESIDENCE OF THE ACTIVE EARNERS, TRAVELLING TO WORK, C9MJTING The data on the duration and the manner of travelling (journey) to the place of work and on commuting are processed by the 1990 population census in a manner different from that of the earlier population censuses. Earlier population censuses included persons having alsó a temporary residence in the resident population of the locality of their temporary residence in all cases e.g. in the tables on the manner and duration of travelling and on commuting. The present processing - independently of the way of registration — assign active earners by commuting on the basis of the identity of or the difference between their actual place of residence and the locality of their working place, and in the case of travelling, too, it takes into consideration the data on the transport between their actual place of residence and their working place. Thus, active earners, having a temporary dwelling in a locality other than the place of their permanent residence but going to work daily from their permanent dwelling, are assigned according to their permanent dwelling. On the country level, the active resident population and the active population calculated according to the actual place of residence are identical, but, in the respective tables containing régiónál data the number of active earners by regions is not equal to the number of active earners in the other tables. Length of time and manner of travelling In the case of active earners the daily time spent on travelling between the working place and the actual place of residence and the kind of transport inclusive of the vehicle/s/ used, were observed. Working place is the administrative (rural, úrban) area where the active earner enumerated works, independently of where he/she lives. 263
