Among the non-manual workers in the past twenty years, the number of those working in health and culture increased to the greatest extent (by 48 per cent). Among then, more than 90 per cent of the growth (103 000 persons) was that of the number of female workers. There was a great increase in the number of those belonging to the categories of accountancy, manegement (25 per cent) and of those working in administration, economic management (22 per cent). The number of those with technical occupations, however, increased only by 4 per cent. It was characteristic of all the groups of non-manual workers that, within the twenty years under review, the great increase in their number occurred in the first ten years of the period. After 1980, the growth became much slower and among those with technical occupations — due to the above mentioned socio-economic problems — there was a great decline (by 16 per cent). In this period, significant rises could be observed only in the case of those working in health and culture (9 per cent) as well as of those with occupations related to accountancy and management (8 per cent). Among the latter, a significant increase (by 43 per cent) in the number of male workers can be attributed to the spreading of banking, insurance and agency activities, as well as to the expansion of the use of computers. In the 1980s, the number of males feli to a smaller or greater extent in all other fields of non-manual work. 26.
