BEVEZETŐ

INTRODUCTION The results of the 1990 population census are published by the Hungárián Central Statistical Office in a publication-series. The parts of the series already published contain the régiónál breakdown of the data adapted to the units of public administration. The data of one part of the individual parliamentary electoral districts designed for the Parliamentary elections cannot be compiled on the basis of the publications which have already appeared. In a part of the districts of Budapest and of other úrban areas two or more election districts have been designed, sometimes by crossing even the administrative frontiers. The aggregation of the population census data to this level can be performed only with the help of the smallest régiónál unit of the population census which is the enumeration district. The tables of the volume contain the most important demographic, occupational, household, family and housing data of the 176 individual parliamentary electoral districts, compiled from the 1990 population census data. For the first time in the 1990 population census publications, among the data series — besides the data of the individual parliamentary electoral districts and the data summarized on the úrban, the rural, the county and the national levels — there are alsó summarizations with regard to the eight regions constituting the operational areas of the Delegates of the Republic. The data were summarized on the basis of the régiónál division at the time of the 1990 parliamentary elections. The lists of the legal rules establishing the régiónál organization of the individual parliamentary electoral districts and of the operational districts of Delegates of the Republic and, respectively, of the changes in the names of localities and in the administrative division since the 1990 parliamentary elections are contained in the Appendix. The latter includes alsó the index of names by localities with the indications of the respective serial numbers of the individual parliamentary electoral districts. Further, the Appendix presents the most important data of the three rural areas which have been transferred from the county of Veszprém to the county of Győr-Moson-Sopron, the publication on magnetic disc presenting the election districts from the MAPSTAT-series graphically describing the population census data and alsó a stock of data compiled by the individual parliamentary electoral districts from the data base system of the statistics of localities of the HCSO. Finally, a separate chapter summarizes the definitions of the notions used in the volume. 4
