BEVEZETŐ

INTRODUCTION The results of the 1990 population census were published by the Central Statistical Office in a series of publications. The volumes contain the data of the various regional units in conformity with the administrative division at the theoretical date of the census.In the population census series of publications, Pestszenterzsébet and Soroksár appeared together as district XX of Budapest. The Parliament at its session on April 6, 1994 adopted the law No. XLIII of 1994 on the administrative division and on the division into districts of the area of Budapest, the capital. The borderlines of districts I-XIX, XXI and XXII were approved by the above law in accordance with the borderlines defined in the law No. XXVI of 1949, while the administrative areas of districts XX and XIII were approved by it in accordance with the respective administrative areas of the town of Pestszenterzsébet and of the commune of Soroksár at the time of their unification with Budapest, the capital on January 1, 1950. The paragraphs of the law relating to the new districts XX and XXIII come into force on December 11, 1994, on the day of the 1994 general elections of the local self-governments. The borderline designated between the two new districts almost coincides with the smallest regional units, the enumeration districts of the 1990 population census. The separation of the data of former district XX was performed by the enumeration district numbers. Consequently, the data which will be published in the future may differ somewhat from those in this booklet. To follow accurately the borderline would have upset the intention of the Central Statistical Office to prepare the publications containing the data of the new districts by the date of the elections and to make available these publications to the new self-governments. The booklet contains the data of district XXIII of Budapest (Soroksár) on the basis of the data of the population, households, families, buildings and housing units surveyed on January 1, 1990 in the area of the new district. Practically, the contents of the publication coincide with the detailing of the district booklets. Detailed information about the concepts used are given in the volume "The data of Budapest." 4
