BEVEZETŐ
INTRODUCTION The results of the 1990 population census are published by the Central Statistical Office in a series of publications. The first volume of this series contains the preliminary results of the census, later appeared also an other volume with the most important data combinations based on a 2 percent sample of the census material. As a continuation of the publication series, the volumes with the detailed demographic, occupational, household and family data of the 19 counties and of Budapest as well as a data collection embracing the respective national totals were published. In order to present in detail the various main subjects (demography, occupations, households, families and housing), the Central Statistical Office, in conformity with its publication traditions, publishes independent volumes. One of them is the present volume which contains the data of the daily commuting of the active earners. The tables of the volume, completing the respective tables published by counties, present detailed information about the daily labour circulation and about the major demographic and occupational characteristics of the two great groups of the active earners: of those working in their place of residence and of the daily commuters. With regard to the most important data, the chapter "Summary data" of the publication makes it possible to perform comparisons with the respective results of former population censuses and contains also the national totals and, respectively, the totals by locality types of the 1990 data processed by localities and counties. The chapter "Detailed data" contains the 1990 data combinations. The publication is closed by the explanation of the concepts used in the tables. Because of reasons relating to data processing the published data may, in some cases, slightly differ from the data published earlier. With regard to daily commuting the data published in the present volume are to be regarded as authentic. 4
