I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 6. Sampling techniques applied in the census
6. Sampling techniques applied in the census Sample techniques (representative techniques) were applied in the course of the experimental registration prior to the census, during the census itself, on various purposes, as for instance for data collection in special cases; for the evaluation of preliminary results and the testing of the accuracy of the census as well as in the survey of the aged, performed after the census. The micro-census connected with the experimental registration was carried out as a preparst atory activity of the census of 1970, according to the situation existing on the 1 January 1968. The operation aimed - in addition to the temporary collection of a number of highly important data - at the fixing of the final programme and the survey method to be applied in the course of the census. The description of the method is to be found in the chapter dealing with the experimental registrations. During the census of 1970 three sample surveys have been executed. In each case, different samples (of different size) were taken by means of different techniques, but as for the census moment, st they accomodated themselves to the census itself (the 1 January 1970, at zero hour). The three samples were the following: a/ A sample based on 25 per cent representativity of the census district in order to survey special problems; b/ A sample of 1 per cent representativity on the purpose of the quick processing and communication of the most important data (prepared essentially on the basis of the mechanical selection according the geographical exposure of the dwellings); c/ A regional sample of 0, 25 per cent representativity for the control of the results by means of a new registration (the so-called "post-enumeration control survey"). In the course of the control survey, a 5 per cent representativity was realized in a survey concerning aged persons (80-89 years old.) a/ THE 25 PER CENT SAMPLE OF THE CENSUS DISTRICT APPLIED IN THE REGISTRATION On occasion of the census of 1970, a sample based on 25 per cent representativity has been taken in order to get more detailed information concerning the country's population. The size and the confidence intervals of the sample The rate of selection of the representative sample, i.e. the sample size is fixed according to the plan of data processing and publication as well as to the nature of the inquiries planned. The sample was a one-stage stratified grouped sample, the unit of which was the census district. Since 43
