I. THE COMPREHENSIVE REWIEV OF THE DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING - 5. The performing of the registration

// LOCAL SUPERVISION The duties of the supervisor were the following: 1. He had fundamentally to know the instructions and agenda put down in details for the census-takers. 2. He managed and controlled the activity of the census-takers belonging to the supervisors' district. Attention had to be paid to the rythm of performance of the registration. 3. He cared for that the registration be fully complete in his district. 4. The supervisor took part, between the 29-31 December, on one occasion in the preliminary perambulation of the district by the census-takers, and checked the corrections to be made in the Directory at the same time. 5. He had to control, in 10 per cent of the dwellings enumerated in the Directory belonging to his district, whether the questionaries are properly filled in. The controlling activity has been partly performed on the first day of the registration - together with the census takers - in order of being able to give them assistance in the solution of contested problems eventually. 6. During the registration, he had to keep on controlling precisely the consistency between the answers given. For sake of promoting this, he collected, if possible, the material every day. 7. He had to receive from the census-takers the complete material referring to his distrcit, th properly ordered, not later than the 14 of January. He had to control it in details, then he handed it over to the person in charge of the community or the town between the 15-17^' of January. The errors or deficiencies which might be corrected or supplied according to the answers given to other questions, were corrected or supplied by the supervisor. If there was no possibility to do so, he gave back the erroneous or deficient questionaries to the census-taker the next day, after having pointed ta the answer-columns to be corrected or supplied. After the corrections made in order to control them, he had to ask them back again. g/ HANDING OVER OF THE CENSUS MATERIALS The supervisor, after having performed his duties, handed over the material to the person in charge of the community or town not later than the I?'* 1 January 1970. The person in charge, after having received the material from each supervisor, and having had corrected and controlled them, prepared the recapitulation sheet of the community or town (formula G. ). The recapitulation had to be prepared according to the recapitulation form of the district (formula F) in the manner that the data appearing in the "total" column of each census district be entered in separate rows, in increasing serial number of the census districts. The census districts belonging to the central downtown area, other downtown areas, to the developing outskirts and other outparts had to be separately enumerated and summed up.
