of the renovation of the palace as a whole. The much-decayed condition of the wall paintings meant that they needed full restoration.

The restoration of the wall paintings was performed by a team of thirteen specialists. Consisting of experienced graduate painting conservators who were also artists, this team worked in co-operation with at least two conservators for each room individually. In the paper, the authors give — room by room - an account of the most interesting moments in the restoration process, as well as of particular problems encountered and findings made.
