Conservation of Vilmos Zsolnay’s memorial (metal, stone construction, ceramic) Gábor Séd - Vilmos Osgyáni — Erzsébet Várbíró Vilmos Zsolnay’s memorial statue was inaugurated on October 13, 1907. The pedestal was designed and prepared by Frigyes Schulek, the exterior coating was made from the new ceramic material, the plutonite, born from Miklós Zsolnay, Jakab Mattyasovszky and Tádé Sikorszki’s experiments. The bronze statues were sculpted by János Horvay and Sándor Apáti Abt. The pedestal and the benches were carved from white limestone. The complex composition of the group of statues demanded the collaboration of specialists, conservators of three fields. The bronze statues were lifted from the pedestal and taken to a workshop tor conservation. The corroded areas were chemically and mechanically cleaned. The surfaces of the statues were passivated treated with and antique finish. The final 223
