Bevezető

publish the recently accomplished eminent results of Hungarian object and fine art restoration. We are especially pleased to include reports that were born in result of co-operation between restorers and art historians and ones that illustrate how the restorers’ observations on production technology can contribute to a more exact interpretation of works of art. According to our traditions, we collected a selection from the diploma works of students of fine art and object restoration in the Institute for Training of Conservators of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, which are noteworthy from various aspects. The student can give a proof of the knowledge and experience they acquired during their studies. The University and the Hungarian National Museum offer workshops, equipment and analytical possibilities to their work. The supervisors and the consultants of the projects help the students with sharing their own research materials, taking part in the planning of the necessary experiments and the interpretation of the analytical results. They together try chemicals and methods that have not yet been used in Hungary. Thus the experiences gathered in the course of achieving the degree works can be incorporated in the basic material of restorer training as a contribution to the work of future generations. 6
