RESTORATION OF THE FORE PART OF A 19th CENTURY NOMADIC SADDLEBAG Abstracts: The previously unknown origin, age and function of the knotted, textile saddlebag- according to the point of view of the art-historian, Ferenc Batári, and looking for analogies form amongst the works of Persian - nowadays Iranian, nomadic tri- bes-the saddlebag originates from the 2nd half of the 19th century and was made by the Khaskai-tribe. Its conditon was weak, damaged and incomplete. The light- and electron-microscopical material-test proved that it was made of wool. The thin-layer-chromatographic dye- analysis and indigo-testing made by a wet analytical method proved that the dye was of madder (Rubia tinctorum) and indigo (Indigóiéra tinctoria). In the next part the article desribes the cleaning, the creation of the durable protection against biological damage, the drying, the dying of the thread needed for restoration, the method of completion, and the list of names of threads used for completions. As the result of the restoration, the object can fulfill its new function as a wall-carpet with both its strength and its aesthetical appearance.
