Wood restoration - a versatile task illustrated by case studies from a county museum - Summary The application of synthetic materials in restoration had reached a point today that is already above the required level. The author draws the attention to this fact after referring to her previous lecture at Eger in 1983. It is a pity that the well-known and proved natural matters are neglected, in spite of the fact that negative experiences have been accumulated in connection of several synthetic materials already.

In the second part of her paper she gives an account of the restoration of wooden pails found in the well of the Eger Fortress. The restoration of the wooden pails saturated with water and dried later was performed in wet electrolite of 4% H3PO4, the wood and the metal fittings, that were impossible to separate without destruction to the specimen together, while the separable iron fittings were cleaned with elektrolysis (in NaOH solution) and Evipass rust-preventive. The iron chains of several meters length were treated with Korrolád KK 18 rifle grease. The wooden matter was pre-treated with Glutofix (a meticellulose) containing extract of Sterogenol and Fungin) following a cleaning with diluted acetone, and was stabilized with Glutofix containing Sterogenol and thymol. The missing parts were supplemented with Titeron B 1 polyester resin. The sticking was, performed using adhesive Mowilith (polyvinyl- -acetate). The treatment of the wooden parts was finished with Xylamon Hell Combi wood conservative device.

Finally, the author gives an account of the desinfectioning of the wooden objects suffered a deterioration from fungi in the Cellar Museum of the Szépasszony-Valley in Eger. This problem was solved by using a 5% alcoholic solution of the sodium salt of benzoic-acid.
