Restoration of a kitchen cabinet from the region Ormánság - Summary Cupboards, kitchen cabinets, sideboards and dressers were pieces of furniture meant for the storage of tableware as well as for the display of ornamental vessels. By the 15th c. they were widely used as ornamental furniture of the dining rooms in the Low Countries and France. Cabinets resembling the one in the possession of the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs appeared at the beginning of the 18th c. in Germany and were transferred to Hungary at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. In his essay the author discusses the technology of the making of the Ormánság kitchen cupboard and based on this survey assumes that the object dates back to the middle of the 19th c.

The twopiece object made of red oak (Wuercus Borealis) was in a very deteriorated state before restoration. Its legs became

crumbly owing to frequent wetting (dirt floor), the right leg was broken. The body of the cabinet has become statically weak because the gluing of the rabbets grew old and became loose.
