The restoration of the Barcs tub-vessel - Summary In autumn of 1971 at Barcs-Belcsapuszta,'in the sediments of the river catchment area, a machine working on the sandy- gravelly site hit against, in the depth of 2,5-3 meters, a big wooden object, that proved to be a tub-vessel of 11,5 m length. The work of the excavation, conservation and restoration was performed by the experts of the Kaposvár Rippl Rónai Museum and the National Centre of Museums in several stages. The boat was wecavated in autumn of 1972. On the surface of the wood saturated with water, a surface soft decay was observable, together with brown and red mouldering. The body of the vessel was cleaned from the contamination first, than it was saturated with Arbokoll H resin (a polycon- densated Hungarian product based on carbamideformaldehide resin + 3-4% ammonium chloride). The vessel was covered by a synthetic foil for the winter. The work was continued in spring of 1973; the body of the vessel already dry was further strengthened by M 29 (a Hungarian) polyester resin diluted in acetone (with 3-4% benzoilperoxide cathalisator, 0,8-1,5% cobaltnafthenate accelerator).
