Restoration of the chest of the butcher guild in Győr - Summary The chest, which ist at present in the possession of the Xantus János Museum in Győr, was made in 1640. Judged after its shape and decoration it is related to the Renaissance pieces of furniture of Southern-Germany and Italy. On its frontpiece the "arms" of the guild, the oxhead is to be seen in a framed field. The object is decorated by applied carvings, chased and blued mountings which are desribed in detail. The condition of the chest before restoration is presented. Some of the carvings were missing, the oxhead and the date above it as well as the cherubs guarding the arms were repainted by bronze powder.
