INTRODUCTION 441 be presumed by the requests for the revisors in it. (György Gyurikovits prepared a transcript based on manuscript C in the first half of 19th century. See D.) II. Presentation of the manuscripts [R] 1: EFK Hist. II. a. pp. 82a—b.1 2: Comitatus Saladiensis delineatio. 3: 2 pp., 330x210 mm. 4: Informations about Zala county. 5: Data collected by Sámuel Rotarides, lutheran pastor of Kapoks2 for Mátyás Bél, following Bél’s questionnaire. It is proved by the titles like “ad primum”, “ad secundum”, and also by the topics and their order - borders, inhabitants, towns, etimology, districts etc. - which are reminiscent of Bél’s early concepts about the structure of descriptions and his questionnaires. In 1718 Bél made a list containing mostly the same questions (generally in the same order) for János Mitsinsky.3 Rotarides wrote only two pages, and reviewed in more details only the district of Tapolca - where Kapoks is situated - which he apparently knew well, and he also enumerated the settlements of this district (1. [R] p. 1.). Bél utilised, eventhough to a small extent, the data he had got from Rotarides.4 6: Since the topics of Rotarides’ answers, and the order of them, as we saw, show a significant similarity to the questionnaire sent to Mitsinsky - which kind of questionniare was later, from the middle of 1720s, rejected by Bél -5 this manuscript, as the one sent to Mitsinsky, can be dated to the end of 1710s. Observationes ad Comitatus Szaladiensis partis Generalis membrum Physicum... 3: 7 ff. 340x210 mm. 4: Observations and informations regarding Zala county. 5: It was made by the same person who made the previous observations about Somogy county in the manuscript volume, and the following ones about Fejér and Tolna county (see OSZK Manuscript Collection Föl. Lat. 277. ff. 132-141, 148-153.). This is the reason why the title is numbered by nr. 2. The author is unknown. The observations seem to follow 1 Inserted in the country description by Kristóf Parschitius. About Parschitius and the role of his work in the creation of the Notitia see Tóth 2007a 1.36-37. 2 The author’s name is given by Bél himself above the title: „Reverendi Domini Samuelis Rotarides delineatio.” See [R] p. 82a. About Rotarides as a pastor of Kapolcs see Payr 1924. 465. 3 Bél 1993. nr. 40. 4 E. g. Rotarides noted that in the county there were Hungarian inhabitants from Alsóörs to Egerszeg: „Incolae Comitatus ab Also Eörs usque Egerszeginum pure Hungari...” See [R] p. 82a. This information used by Bél: „...totam plagam usque ad fluvium Murám inter Örs Inferius, et Egerszeginum Hungari occupant...” See C p. 19. 5 About all this see Tóth 2007a I. 65-73.
