Matthias Belius: Comitatus Arvensis

54 ARVA COUNTY plenty of supplements, mostly regarding his own family but also about others. Bél was grateful for the work done (see c) and he incorporated most of Reviczky’s remarks into the description.21 He quotes him and his observations with name on several occasion.22 6: Between October 1736 and September 1738 (cf. c). D 1: EFK Hist. I.i. 2: Comitatus Arvensis. 3: 168 pp. 360x235 mm. 4: Description of Árva County. 5: The copy was made by an unkown hand (however, there are copies of other descriptions by the same hand). In the text a supplement can be seen, that was probably made by Mátyás Bél (?),23 on another page a strange hand (probably the copyist of manuscript E) corrected a word.24 The text dates certainly after February 1739 since Bél pays a tribute to the death of his diligent helpmate János Ferenc Reviczky (he died on 12th February 1739).25 As we have already mentioned, Bél has mostly accepted Reviczky’s comments as can also be observed in this manuscript.26 Our edition is based on this copy since this is the latest version that was surely seen and corrected by Bél. 6: It was made after 12th February 1739 (Reviczky’s death), but it is possible that even later, after 1742, since in the preface of the description Bél seems to write about four finished volumes of the Notitia, 27 and the 4th volume was published in 1742. E 1: EFK Hist. I. h. 2: Comitatus Arvensis. 3: 168 pp. 360x235 mm. 4: Description of Arva County. 5: Copy by an unkown hand (however, there are copies of other descriptions by the same hand). A truthful copy of manuscript D, it even accords in the number of pages. The two modifications on 21 For example he followed precisely the above cited remark in the case of Benyólehota (cf. preceding note): „Benyo Lehota... insignis vicus est, et villa rustica, Iohannis olim Rewiczkii memorabilis, quam hodie successores Andreae Rewiczkii, ob Alexandri itidem Rewiczkii, nomina, possident.” See D p. 140., E p. 140. 22 „Opportune heic nos admonuit, laudatus nunc Ioannes Franciscus Rewiczky, exempli Mariae reginae, Ludovici II. viduae. Quam, Ferdinandus I. A. MDXXVIII. feria proxima, post festum B. Lucae, castro Owár, et supremi comitis axiomate donavit.” D p. 33. Reviczky’s commentary relating to this part of the text: „...Nam honor Comitatus Mosoniensis cum castro Ovár et appertinentiis per Férd. I. fuit collatus Mariae reginae viduae Lud. II. Viennae feria 5. proxima post festum B. Lucae A. 1528.” See [Re] p. [187.] 23 He added one word: „...filiam enixa Susannam, Iohannis Lengyel <postea> consortem.” See D p. 102. 24 „Colitur Processus hic, oppidis duobus, sed... neque ita instructis, ut probatam (?) <idoneam> scribendi materiam, sufficiant.” D p. 130. 25 „Obiit anno MDCCXXXIX. XII. Febr. Vindobonae febri acuta consumtus [sc. I. F. Reviczky].” L. Belius, Matthias: Comitatus Arvensis, Prooemium. L. D p. 1.
