INTRODUCTION 29 county is very similar. As we have already mentioned above, it was published in the Prodromus27 but Bél writes in his plan of 1732 that he wishes to republish it with supplements and a map in the beginning of the third volume, the Cistibiscan part.27 28 29 However we have not found anywhere in Bél’s manuscript collection a manuscript that would be an improved version compared to the one published in the Prodromus and Bél himself never again alluded to working on the completion of Szepes county.2'2 Therefore we won’t include it in our edition because we would only be able to reproduce the version in the Prodromus already published in print. Finally we will again diverge from the draft when we place the description of the Jász and Kun districts in the Cistibiscan part. We decided to do so because the description is based on the same structure as used in the Notitia and even if it is not listed in either the 1732 nor the 1742-1749 plan, Bél must have wanted it to be printed, perhaps not on its own but as part of one of the other county descriptions. Considering all the factors above we set up the plan of the county descriptions’ edition based on the plan of 1732. Calculating the length of the descriptions we find it achievable to publish all the descriptions left in manuscript in ten volumes. We tried to set up the volumes respecting Bel’s categorisation and within that also to place in each volume counties covering a well discernable geographical area. I.
