Bács-Kiskun Megyei Levéltár (Bács-Kiskun County Archives)

Of the feudal and capitalistic material of Kecskemét city the following deserve to be mentioned: the records of the council (from 1599), the tax office (1633-1848), the audit office (1667-1848), the manorial court established in Kecskemét by Pest county (1702-1848), the court of the judge (1649-1854) and the so-called collection of ancient records (1557-1836), further the cadastral survey of Joseph II and the papers of the 1848/49 fight for freedom. Baja borough was an important crossing-place from the Middle Ages and managed to live through the Turkish occupation. It has lost, however, the overwhelming majority of its archival material owing to a fire in the archives in 1840. Its journals are preserved since 1724, its records since 1850. From the period prior to 1944 the records of the council of the borough and those of the burgomaster's office are worth mention. Kiskunfélegyháza borough was entirely depopulated under the Turks, resettled only in 1743. Since that year its archives were practically preserved in entirety. A considerable damage was caused by an unprofessional selection at the end of the past century only. Notable parts of the archives are the records of the borough council (from 1744), the body of representatives (1872-1944), the audit office (1875-1944) and the collection of the constitutions of Kiskunfélegyháza associations. Kiskunhalas borough was an important settlement before the Turkish occupation already, its records are, however, entirely missing before the eighteenth century. In 1944 the city hall was hit by a bomb, also the archives suffered serious damages. So it was that among others the assembly journals of the capitalistic period were annihilated. Significant records are the council papers from the feudal period (1696-1848) and those of the burgomaster's office (1872-1944) beyond the council records from a later date. Kalocsa borough was the seat of an archbishopric as early as in the reign of Stephen I. It was depopulated under the Turkish occupation, resettled after 1686 only. Only a minimal part of its archives has been preserved; its records are continuous from 1880 only. (Numerous data on the history of the city and its surroundings may be found in the archiepiscopal archives, so it is indispensable in research of the eighteenth and the nineteenth centuries.) Kiskőrös borough was settled in 1718. A minimal part has been left of its records prior to 1944. The records of the specialized organs of administration equally suffered very much by the ravages of World War II. So their majority left scarce and fragmentary material. There are also exceptions: the State Survey Inspecto-
