A Görögkeleti Szerb Püspökség Levéltára (Greek Orthodox Serbian Episcopal Archives)
The archives have taken over the fragmentary (twentieth century) records of the institutions (Baptist theology, houses of charity, home of aged ministers, etc.) and of the associations (bible circles for men and women, youth associations) as well. Among the deposits and bequests those of the historian Bertalan A. KIRNER, the professor of theology Mihály BARANYAI and the man of letters János SOMOGYI deserve mention, all from the twentieth century. From the turn of the century there are collections of printed matter and photographs as well. Research is possible from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Archivist: vacant The Greek Orthodox Serbian bishopric of Buda was founded officially in 1965, but it was active probably much earlier, with the seat in Szentendre. The settlement of Greek Orthodox Serbians namely, fleeing the Turks, began in the fourteenth century in Hungary. In the winter months the bishops resided in Buda, in the episcopal palace, from spring to autumn they stayed in Szentendre, joining their bureaus. During World War II the Buda palace was destroyed, so the bishopric moved to Szentendre, its original seat. The archival material totals about 200 running metres. The records between 1695 and 1742 were annihilated. The judicial acts begin in 1743, the judicial journals in 1777 and the records of church government in 1872. Records on church schools start with 1872 equally and reach up to 1949. The old parish registers, up to 1896, are also preserved here. Both the judicial and the administrative acts have registers and indices, most useful in research.
