them, the registries of all the organizations under the jurisdiction of the church district and the other collections belonging to this branch. The material of the Archives and of the branch totals 620 running metres. The most ancient records of historical value are preserved in the collection before Mohács. It contains 71 pieces. The oldest copy dates from 1209, the oldest original from 1272. An important archival group is the rich material of the superintendent's office from 1567 to 1950. The former Agents* Archives are one of its archival subgroups. Outstanding for cultural history is the Archives of the Reformed College (1588-1950), illustrating education, organization and economy of all the educational institutes of the College, and also the progress of the pupils in their studies, their boarding houses, associations, jurisdiction, etc. For local history the archival groups of dioceses and congregations are significant. Among the former the Bihar (1874-1950), the Debrecen (15671950), the Berettyó region (1833), the Felsó'szabolcs (1606-1950), the Középszabolcs (1632-1950), the Nagykároly (1615-1950), the Nagyszalonta (1823-1950), the Szatmár (1654-1949) and the Nagykunság (1691-1952) dioceses, among the latter the Debrecen congregation (1651-1950) have material of great source value. The arrangement of the archival material on medium level is in progress, but some archival subgroups are already arranged on piece level. For surveys see the articles of Sándor NAGY on the Archives of the Tibiscan Reformed Church District in Református Egyház (Reformed Church), 1956. vol, no. 16, and on the Debrecen College Archives in Egyháztörténet (Church History) vol. 2 nos 1-2. The archival material is at disposal for research according to the Research Rules. Research in the records after 1938 needs a special permit of the Presidency of the Church District. The research room is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., except on Saturdays. In the photo-laboratory of the College microfilms, on the xerox machine reproductions may be procured. The archival reference library helps research with literature on ecclesiastical, congregational, local ftistory and works
