Dr. Péter Balázs: Guide to the archives of Hungary (Budapest, 1976)
Magyar Ferences Levéltár (Hungarian Franciscan Archives)
Other considerable archival groups contain the archival material of the single convents from the time between 1649 and 1950. Here one finds the material of 51 convents, or parishes, respectively, but the quantity of the most is minimal. The archival groups of the convents contain volumes of História Domus, volumes with the decrees and circulars of the authorities, official correspondence, tables on the personal data and the division of work of the members of the convents, and notes of financial character (accountbooks of incomes and expenses, etc.). The most valuable pieces not only of these archival groups, but of the Archives are the volumes of História Domus, containing data mainly for local history, of the following convents: Augustinian convent of Buda-Országút (1734-1782), Franciscan convents of Buda-Viziváros and Mártírok Street (1731-1950), Csongrád (1937-1950), Debrecen (1943-1950), Eger (17301791, 1845-1928), Gyöngyös (1767-1814, 1886-1934), Jászberény (17421937), Hatvan (1929-1949), Kecskemét (1759-1950), Mátraverebély (17571950), Pécs (1776-1918), Salgótarján (1927-1950), Simontornya (19001950), Szécsény (1739-1784, 1880-1950) and Vác (1719-1797). Valuable is also the material collected and bound into nearly 80 volumes by the provincial Jakosics for the time between 1708 and 1889, containing besides the copies of ancient charters many originals, much correspondence and other material of historical interest. This collection embraces among others 13 letters by Ignác MARTINOVICS and Franciscan correspondence and drafts connected with him. The Archives are arranged down to the level of archival groups and subgroups, except for the Jakosics collection. So far the list of archival groups of the Hungarian Franciscan Archives and the repertory of the Jakosics collection are elaborated. The lack of more detailed finding aids is no obstacle to research, as the material is small and arranged according to archival subgroups, so the wanted piece may be found easily. No survey of the Hungarian Franciscan Archives has been published yet. It has no publications. The archivist may be found from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays, then research is possible. He is also at disposal on previous application. Dr. Károly Konrád SZÁNTÓ
