of the archives. They are a source for diocese history, but also indispensable for local history; they are full of worldly and political relations, of which we mention the data on the behaviour of the clergy during the revolution of 1848. This material is apt for research in a various degree. The records of church administration have rather good indices, except for some years. The other parts of it usually lack finding aids. In the group of the personal papers of the bishops (1686-1950) we find the correspondence of the greatest bishop of the diocese, György KLIMÓ (in Latin and Italian), as well as that of the bishops Girk, Dulánszky and Hetyey. The letters of Klimó and Girk contain important data especially on the organisation of pastoral work in the diocese, the papers of Dulánszky illustrate the restoration of the cathedral. The literary bequest of Ferenc ROGÁCS also belongs to this group. With the exception of the latter the material is arranged. The archival group of the Diocesan Inspectorate of Schools (1878-1948) contains records on the direction and supervision of elementary schools. They furnish data on the personal, material and disciplinary affairs of the teachers, the conditions of teaching, the development and the situation of schools. Research is helped by indices. * The intention to research has to be notified beforehand. In this case the research room is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pál KERSÁK A PÉCSI SZEKESKÁPTALAN LEVÉLTÁRA (THE ARCHIVES OF THE PÉCS CATHEDRAL CHAPTER) 7621 PÉCS, Szent István tér 23. In 1543, in the time of Turkish occupation it made an effort to save the archives, transporting it to Western Hungary, mainly to Pozsony (today Bratislava, Tchecoslovakia), but a large part of it perished during the flight. The famous historian of the chapter, József KOLLER regained several
