promoting comradeship and scientific instruction. The archival material of the Association, active up to 1947, is complete, including the records of the liquidation commission of 1947/48. The records of the Budapest Medical Association contain those of the Budapest Medical Circle, established in 1874, and the personal papers of some members of the Association (Lajos ARÁNYI, Sándor FEKETE, József FODOR, Vilma HUGONNAY, Frigyes and Sándor KORÁNYI, József MELLY, Ödön RAJKA, János WAGNER, etc.). The work on the material is in course, the arrangement is followed by the elaboration of a finding aid, helping research significantly. Another material of historical significance is the archive of the itinerary congresses of Hungarian Physicians and Naturalists, an organisation active (with major or minor interruptions) from 1841 to 1933. It is the more important, as the yearly itinerant congresses collected the members of the medical societies, the students of related sciences and the promoters of natural sciences; they not only attended scientific lectures but often brought proposals for the advancement of Hungarian scientific life to common knowledge. Unfortunately the finding aids of the material and also the papers of the last decades were annihilated, or lost during World War II, respectively. The material of the Archives is continuous up to 1907, that of the following years is very deficient. We possess also the fragments of the papers of the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Society and the Budapest Pharmaceutical Association and also the personal papers of some outstanding Hungarian pharmacists. The Archives is supervising the central and member societies' records of the Union of Hungarian Medical Societies and Associations, to be taken into archival custody in the future.
