Zala Megyei Levéltár (Zala County Archives)

archives of authenticity were arranged and provided with good finding aids. They are in the same condition to-day. The significance of the home archives of Zalavár and Kapornak Abbeys is enhanced by important records of estate management from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. Of the family and personal archival groups the papers of the Csányi, the Gyömörey, the Sellyei and the Skublics families deserve mention. Research in the family and personal papers is possible with the help of detailed stack-room lists. Collections are represented by the mentioned pre-Mohács collection and that of individual pieces, provided with a good alphabetical index, also the collection of maps (1770-1971) of 1518 manuscript maps and a description on item level. On the Zala County Archives (Zala vármegye levéltára) a survey was given by József FÁRA in vols 1935 and 1936 of Levéltári Közlemények (Archival Bulletin). The list of archival groups (A Zala megyei Levéltár fondjainak jegyzéke. Budapest, 1970) and the list of manuscript maps has been published. The Archives have no publications, but they edited several publications of the Council : Olvasókönyv Zala megye történetéhez (Reader to the History of Zala County), ed. by Alajos DEGRÉ. Zalaegerszeg, 1961. — Zalai Tükör (Zala Mirror), vol. I. 1974. 1848/49. zalai eseménytörténete (The Events of Zala county in 1848/49. — Zalai Gyűjtemény (Zala Collection), vols I-III. 1974-1975. The research room of the Zala County Archives is open from Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., on Friday 8 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., closed on Saturday. Microfilm reader is at the disposal of researchers. The reference library of the Archives totals 7810 volumes, containing the most important works on local history, partly the local press.
