Szolnok Megyei Levéltár (Szolnok County Archives)

Of the documents of the 1919 Hungarian Republic of Councils we keep as a separate archival group the material of the political commissioner of the lower Jászság district, the remaining few pieces are preserved in the archival group of the respective borough or parish. The Archives has a separate collection for the history of working class movement from 1877 to 1944. The rich source material of the great political change after World War II (National Commissions, Screening Commissions, Land Claimants Commissions, Popular Commissions) and also the records of the county, district, city and village councils from 1950 to 1960 are in archival custody. The use of archival material is helped by the centrally published list of archival groups A Szolnok megyei levéltár fondjainak jegyzéke (Budapest, 1975) and of manuscript maps (the former was edited by the Archives in 1975, the latter in 1974 as well) and the list of feudal conscriptions. Archival publications are: Olvasókönyv Szolnok megye történetéhez (A Reader to the History of Szolnok County), ed. by Árpád ANTAL (Szolnok, 1969). — Dokumentumok az iskolák államosításának Szolnok megyei történetéből (Documents to the Nationalisation of the Schools in Szolnok County), ed. by Árpád ANTAL, Tibor GYŐRI and Ernő SZURMAI (Szolnok, 1973). — Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok megye kialakulása (The Formation of JászNagykun-Szolnok County), ed. by Mrs Peter SERES (Szolnok, 1975.) A research and library room is at disposal, receiving 20 people at the same time. Research is possible in the office hours each day except Monday. Research workers may use the microfilm reader too, they have a chance to procure reproductions. The reference library totalling 5 000 volumes is open to them as well. Árpád ANTAL vice-director
