Nógrád Megyei Levéltár (Nógrád County Archives)

Among the collections that of the village by-laws and budgets from the nineteenth-twentieth centuries and the plans of forest management from the same age supply abundant sources for economic history. The material of land charting after 1867, embracing details of cadastral works is also a valuable source, provided with maps. The manuscript collection of the Balassagyarmat Iván Nagy Museum holds the records of museum management and numerous valuable notes and manuscripts. Here are the deposits of notable persons of the country, among them that of the pioneer of female education in Hungary, Mrs Pal VERES, Hermin BENICZKY. Only fragments have remained from the period of the 1919 Councils' Republic: the journals of the workers' councils of some villages and ordinances of the directorium. Of the commissions established in 1945, active in the revival of the county, only defective material has remained, that of the National Commissions between 1945 and 1948 and of the land-claimants commission, preparing the land reform of 1945. More records have remained of those of a less valuable organ, the Screening Commissions between 1945 and 1947. Among the organs of specialized administration the history of the period after 1945 is illustrated by the following: the county records of the Hungarian Resettlement Government Commissariat (1945-1950), those of the Nógrád County Land Board, executing the land reform (1945-1950), the Nógrád County Economic Inspectorate, directing agricultural production (19451950), the Nógrád County School Inspectorate, active in cultural organization (1945-1950) and of the Nógrád County Inspectorate of Free Education (1945-1950). From the archival material of the period of the councils (after 1950) the following records have already been taken into archival custody: those of the sections of Nógrád County Council (1950-1956), the journals (1950-1971) and records (1950-1959) of the district councils, the journals of the councils and executive committees of cities and districts (1950-1957), the records of village councils (1950-1951). The following description has been published on the Archives: Nógrád megye levéltára (Nógrád County Archives) ed. by Miklós SCHNEIDER. (Salgótarján, 1969.) (Publications of the Nógrád County Museum No. 17.). A Nógrád megyei Levéltár fondjainak jegyzéke (List of Archival Groups of Nógrád County Archives.) Budapest, 1970. With the title Adatok és források a Nógrád megyei Levéltárból (Data and Sources from Nógrád County Archives) the repository started a series of publications. Numbers hitherto published:
