Győr-Sopron Megyei 2.sz. Levéltár (Győr-Sopron County Archives (No.2.)

important ecclesiastical material is the private and authenticity archives of the Premonstratensian convent of Csorna from 1535 to 1949. The personal material consists mainly of the papers of the best known barristers of the city, representing the interests of enterprises, fabrics too (Bakk, Hering, etc., 53 running metres). The papers of several noble families (Zeke, Vizkelety, Simon, etc.) are preserved by the Archives as deposits (27 running metres). Of the material of economic enterprises the records of Brennberg mines, Iron Products Corp., Silk Industry, Wool Industry, etc. are apt for research, as they are arranged at medium level and selected, also provided with a detailed inventory. The papers of the former political and cultural associations (1872-1949) illustrate the life of the former bourgeois society of the town (16 running metres). Among the corporations the material of the guilds is important. Among the archival groups from the socialist period the first power of workers (1919) is represented by eight running metres. The most valuable parts are the journals of the Workers' and Soldiers' Council and the records of some people's commissars (of social welfare and of finance). From the period of revolutionary changes between 1945 and 1956 the records of the various special organs: the political screening committee, the land claimants committees and the national committee have come iftto archival custody entirely. Beside them the relevance of the Sopron County Land Office for contemporary history has to be emphasized. Finally we mention that we collected the records of the Sopron city council up to 1956, those of the three districts (Csorna, Kapuvár, Sopron) up to 1962 inclusively. A list of archival groups of the Archives A Soproni Állami Levéltár fonalainak jegyzéke (Budapest, 1967) and a detailed catalogue of its 300 manuscript maps are published, both edited by the Archives' Board.
