Diplomatarium comitum terrestrium Crisiensium (1274-1439) In two cases (those of Gregory and Lucas, son of Simon) we can only speculate on the duration of the office, since they are known to us only from mentioning in other charters. John, son of Demetrius and John, son of Benedict, held the office several times. From the fifteenth century, we know about twelve comites terrestres, from which Valentin, son of Blaise of Poljana held the office four times (1407-1409, 1413-1414, 1418, 1436) and Adam, son of Nicholas of Mindszent twice (1411, 1416-1417). * * * The first comes terrestris who we can identify with certainty was Prevša, who held that office in 1249.56 From other sources, it is known that his father's name was John.57 Prevša, together with George, the comes of Križevci, led a perambulation around the borders of the estate of a free village of Križevci (libera villa) on the demand of Ban Stephen of Slavonia.58 King Bela IV ordered that Prevša and Comes George revise the borders of some donated estates in 1253.59 With two companions, Prevša also estimated the value of an estate during its sale on the order of the abovementioned Comes George in 1260.60 The next comes terrestris of whom we know with certainty was John, son of Chakany.61 From the aforementioned charter of 1260, issued by George, the comes of Križevci, he, together with two colleagues, Comites Prevša and Hegen, estimated the value of an estate. Prevša mentioned in the charter is certainly the same as the first comes terrestris of Križevci and its district mentioned above. In the following century, we know of some cases where a person who once held the office of the comes terrestris and used the title of comes in front of his name even after finishing the service. It is therefore probable that Hegen also held the office before 1260, although we cannot be certain about the exact dates during which he held his office.62 56 18 July 1249 (CD 4, doc. 351). 57 John, father of Prevša was mentioned in a charter of King Béla IV from 1263 (CD 5, doc. 762).
