Lámpalázam legott alábbha­gyott, mikor egy szikár,egye­nes tartású, elegáns, magas úr kedvesen mosolyogva elémjött és szárnyai alá vett. Ismerős volt, de a nevét va­lahogy nem értettem a bemu­tatkozásnál; mégis éreztem a belőle kiáradó melegséget, és még valami mást: kariz­mát. Csak előadásom után tudtam meg, hogy pártfogóm, aki csodálatos, zengő hangú szép szóval köszönte meg, s szinte érdemtelenül dicsérve előadásomat, nem kisebb em­ber volt, minta világhírű Herz Ottó, a fenomenális zongoris­ta, a zene évtizedes prédiká­tora, professzora, a dal sze­relmese. Sokan idézik a ma már vi­lághírű magyar zeneszerzők, karmesterek, zenészek, éne­kesek névsorát; az USA-ban különösen ők képviselik a leg­népszerűbb exportcikkeket. Ki nehallotta volna Liszt,Doh­­nányi, Bartók, Kodály, Szi­geti, Reiner, Solti, Ormándy, Széli, Kertész, Földes Andor, Székely Mihály stb. nevét. Alig múlik el nap, hogy ne ol­vashatnánk sikereikről a vi­lágban. De Herz Ottó nem tündökölt. G a zene "néma"-Herz Ottó emlékére­szerelmese, tudója, interpre­­tálója volt. Február elején, nyolcvanegy éves korában hirtelen meg­halt. Valószínű, szívroham vitte el. Élete utolsó percéig dolgozott. 1939 óta élt Ame­rikában, New Yorkban, ahol a New York College zenepro­fesszora és számos más ze­neiskola tanára volt. Gazdag pályája folyamán több mint ötezer koncertet adott, világ­hírű művészek zongorakisé­­rőjeként turnézott világszer­te. Nehéz lenne meghatároz­ni mi is volt a szakterülete, mert a kamaramuzsikálástól dalkisérésen át jóformán a zene minden ágában kiváló volt. Többször megírták ró­la, hogy egyike volt a lapról olvasás legnagyobb művé­szeinek. Mint zongorista fel­vehette a versenyt bármelyik híres kortársával. Mint zene­­pedagógus, kiváló zenészeket nevelt. Nemrégiben Magyar­­országon tévé sorozatot csi­náltak MESTERISKOLÁJÁ­BÓL, amit állandóan vetíte­nek. Gyakran hívták zsűri­tagnak nemzetközi zongora­­versenyek szervezői. 1972- ben a Kodály énekverseny zsűri elnöke volt. De az igazi szerelme a dal volt. Mi is a dal? Ezt kutatta, tanulmányozta, boncolgatta, magyarázta szenvedélyesen, szíve utolsó dobbanásáig.Bár legalább harminc kedvenc ze­ne- és dalszerzőt sorolt fel ha megkérdezték, ki a kedven­ce, leginkább Schubertért ra­jongott. A mester csaknem hatszáz dalából több mint négyszázat tökéletesen is­mert és játszott s úgy vélte, hogy kétszáz azok közül a vi­lág legcsodálatosabb, legtö­kéletesebben komponált, leg­szebb dala. Dalszeretetét si­keresen plántálta át tanítvá­nyaiba, akik közül jónéhányan kiváló dalénekesek lettek. Én csak mint zongoristát ismertem . Elbűvölően ját­szott, valósággal eggyé vált a zongorával, átszellemült a zenélés gyönyörűségében. Magnetikus egyénisége, sze­­retetet árasztó lénye, sze­rénysége, kellemes modora, szellemi szikrázása minden­kit elbűvölt. Káprázatos me­móriája volt, száguldó agy­működése szinte kuriózum­számba ment. Sudár, magas, egyenes alak­ja nem tűnik fel többet a Fé­szek Klubban, melynek évek óta elnöke volt. Nem lesz aki , megnyugtassa az izgatott elő­adót. A zene kedvelői szegé­nyebbek lettek egy páratlan zongoristával, barátai, rajon­gói, tanítványai pótolhatatlan mestert, tanárt, egy valóban kiváló embert vesztettek el, de lemezeivel emléke tovább BAGEL STORE FOR SALE — L. Egy baráti társaságban találko­zott dr. Rosenthal Béla izraeli pa­tikussal (aki bátyja Rosenthal Er­nőnek, a Bnai Zion munkácsi cso­portja elnökének,) s rövid ismeret­ség után házasságra léptek, Dr, Ro­­senthal visszautazott Izraelbe meg­felelő lakást keresni, Gizi itt ma­radt felszámolni lakását, s rövide­sen férje után megy.
