The studied phytocenoses are situated on hilly area at 18 km north-north-west of Tärgu-Murej city and it belongs to the Ceuaful de Cámpie commune. The identified phytocenoses were framed to Festuco-Brometea and Molinio- Arrhenatheretea classes. Two vegetal associations were identified: Arrhenatberetum elatioris Br.-Bl. ex Scherrer and Thymo pannoniéi — Stipetum stenophyllae Sanda et al 1998. For these grasslands flora several threatened and rare taxons were identified being included in the national and international red lists: Adonis vernalis, Agrimonia pilosa, Prunus tenella. Keywords: vegetation description, grasslands, rare plants, Flerghelia hills Introduction The overall objective of this research is to contribute to a better knowledge of the flora and vegetation of this area. The specific objectives are to investigate plant communities and assess the presence of certain endangered species in these grasslands flora. Herghelia village is situated 18 km north-north-west ofTargu-Mure§ city and it belongs to the Ceua§ul de Cámpie commune, from the region known as the “Transylvanian Plain”, a much discussed toponym in the biogeographical classification. Material and methods In accordance with the research work performed in 2008-2010, two plant associations were identified in the area we studied, their phytocoenoses being framed in Molinio- Arrhenatheretea and Festuco-Brometea classes by Ladislav Mucina, Georg Grabherr, Thomas Ellmauer (1993) [11] classification system. Observations and field researches were conducted from 2008 to 2010, during the plants vegetation period. The types of grasslands were identified, and within these, several phytosociological surveys were carried out, following the Braun-Blanquet method [6, 7]. Sample areas were selected so as to include altitudinal variations that exist within the territory. Determination of species was done on the field and in laboratory, based on the collected material, especially for difficult to identify taxa, using Flora Romania [16]. Nomenclature of species is consistent with Flora Europaea [15]. Syntaxonomic classification was based on consulting the most recent MARIS I A, XXXI, p. 9-19
